What are vlogs?

It’s a question I have received several times and would like to answer once and for all…

Vlogs are an abbreviation for video logs. Vlogging has been around since the early 21st century but became as popular as it is today due to the increasing popularity of YouTube, which is also the platform that I use for vlogging.

A few well known real life vloggers are Tyler Oakley, Kingsley, Jenna Marbles, Shane Dawson, danisnotonfire and LessAmazingPhil.

There are different types of vlogs and channels, just as there are different types of blogs. A few examples would be personal blogs, travel blogs, fashion blogs etc. Equivalently YouTube is filled with all kinds of different channels.

The term ‘vloggers’ is usually associated with personal video bloggers only. Fashion and beauty vloggers are usually called ‘beauty gurus’. I suppose that makes me a Second Life Beauty Guru, which has a rather quirky sound to it.

To return to the original question, vlogs are blog posts, but on video. It’s that simple!

I hope this helped. If you happen to stumble upon any other questions, feel free to contact me via here.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope to see you in my next vlog!
